    Bang, flop, elk down!

Annual elk hunting trip to the Merino Valley in New Mexico
Spotted a herd of 40 cow elk
Had to climb up a couple thousand feet, but couldn't get any closer than 590 yards. 5 of us lined up, counted 1,2,3, bang!
3 killed instantly, two wounded and finished off. Then the work began.....
I skinned 2.5 of the elk with the Mike Miller knife that I won last year, and it was still sharp afterwards.

For some reason, probably because I’m using my phone, the pics are in reverse sequence.
The second pic from the bottom is where we took the shot. I marked up the pic to show where a couple guys were field dressing the elk.
Second pic from the top is where I used the winch on my 4 wheeler along with a snatch block on the trailer to drag the elk up onto the trailer.

Every one but one is an experienced long range shooter. We all had good rests on backpacks and time to settle in on a target. The guy with no long range experience still got his but it was an ugly shot. He didn’t adjust for the wind and got it way far back. He finished it as well as the other guy that made a shot that was a tad low and took out the front legs.
Good day with a ton of work after.
Better than getting into them in the evening.
