I was getting ready to burn a field today but it was too wet and happened to see a nice tom strutting along the edge. Turkey really like burnt areas, so when it dries up a little, might have to get back in there and light it off.

    One for Guage

Well we didn't get rained out. We got to of hunting spot and got out the truck and the coyotes sounded howling. We heard some gobble and it was still early so we thought well go to our other spot, but it didn't look good so we went back to the first spot. The bird were still there. So got set up. The were on the other side of the fence where we weren't allowed to hunt. 2 hen walked down the fence passed us but one crossed came in behind us. We didn't want to spook her. She started to cross back to the other side of a fence and here came Mr. Jake and crossed over to our side. The hen wasn't interested and kept on walking. Mr. Jake saw the decoys and strutted right in. Then bang, Guage scored. All in 15 minutes after shooting time. We went back out later to try to get me a bird but why is it cows have to butt in. Even though I didn't get one I had a good day.

Well Thursday evening and Friday were fantastic scouting and fishing days. My son out fished me 10-1. Saturday morning looked promising. The biblical rains hit around 10am. Didn't stop until about 5am Sunday. Dumped nearly 2" according to the ranger. Sunday the sun came out about 9am and it was a fantastic day in the woods. No bird but it wasn't for a lack of effort and walking.
