X10 Mike on the Lansky sharpener. I got one at Christmas when I was in 7/8 grade. Still have it and I can make even the dullest knife shaving sharp. My buddy had a fixed blade cold steel knife and he couldn’t get it sharp no matter what he tried. After dinner at deer camp I clamped it in and went to work. It took longer than normal but I got it shaving hair. He couldn’t believe it.

I see 4 or 5 stone sets on Amazon. Which would you recommend? I’d almost guarantee no place in this town sells them. If they did they’d be marked up big time.

I do not use the stone ones. I get the Diamond ones. High carbon normally runs 55-58 RC but the stainless I use is 60-61. I have some M-4 steel in the shop that Rockwells 63 . As Smokewagon said above some of those hard hard steels take a lot longer to sharpen. Stones seemed to wear away in no time. My knives I make I go to my belt grinder with a 220 grit belt until I feel a burr then go to a 2000 grit to polish the edge. Razor sharp yes! Keep posting drop or semi-skinner.
