Brainstorming on a Idea here........about trapping.

Made this offer on another forum, would like to offer it here as well. There are few who trap anymore, and a lot of those who do are older gentlemen, who grew up doing it and learning from their fathers and grandfathers. SO ..............I'm going to throw this out there, and if it progresses, awesome, if it doesn't, it doesn't.

If there's enough interest here, I'd like to take a day and put a trapping seminar for anyone who'd like to learn. Would really great if your kids were involved, and really that would be my focus is getting as many kids involved as possible. I don't want this to be a show and tell, but a hands on learning experience...get your hands on the traps, pound some stakes, hands in the dirt.

Things we'd go over would be:
-Oklahoma laws concerning trapping-plenty of them and necessary
-Trap styles and variations- footholds, dog proofs, and cage traps
    -Trap preparation
-Species habits for coons, coyotes, bobcats (you'll catch plenty of skunks and opossums by accident, lol)
-How not to catch as many skunks and opossums, lol.
    -Trap locations and sets
-What to do after a catch is made
-What to do with your furs

Trapping for some is extra cash from the furs, for some it's outsmarting the predator in his own home, for some it's just fun. For me it's a combo of all of the above, my kids and I both enjoy it, it's a great time together in the woods.

Good deal! I've trapped for years, but I'd still attend to see what other techniques could be picked

That sounds like a swell idea. I know my kids would love it.

as mentioned in other forum. I would like to attend. Date/time would dictate if I would attend though.

I would like to see other ways and philosophies on trapping. Might learn something that works way better than the way I have done it.

Not decided yet on place and time. Would like for it to cool off some first, looks like most of the interest that I've had has been in the OKC area. Had an offer from a guy to use his place on the river just west of OKC.

I just want to catch a damn bobcat. First I need to initiate a full scale eradication of the local raccoons so they quit showing up everywhere.

And our limit is 40 per season, 10 per day. Craziness...........I could catch 40 during the first 3 or 4 days of December if the weather is good but I don't don't try to because I know I'm going to catch about 20 on accident in bobcat sets during Jan/Feb. No limits on coons in most states.

Coon cuffs are legal now. You won't catch any skunks with those.
