Mike, the guy on 7, two weeks ago never found his "nice buck" so he's probably still prowling around 5-8. Based on what he told me and the blood I saw, it looked like a brisket/muscle hit, not fatal. They told me there was a nice 6 and a nice 8 in there. Of course, everyone's definition of "nice" is different so take that with a pinch of salt. I know first hand there's plenty of does to choose from in 6.

Bratch, the only thing I can tell you is I had some friends who commuted to/from Tulsa about every day and he used to swear by seeing some "good" deer on the side of the turnpike near your zone in the evenings driving home. He was kind of a trophy guy and I'd trust his judgement of "good" or "nice".

Know this is a stupid question but Something I forgot to ask the hunt manager said you need a physical tag. Is that something I need to get from dept of wildlife?

Nope you can use anything that you can affix to the deer. It needs your name, ODWC number, date and time of kill.

I had my wife grab me some tie on gift tags at target that I’m using now, before that I had a “my name is…” sticker that I was planning to stick to the body.

I didn’t think about it until after I left but I should have found you, I had the wife and dog in the Jeep so I didn’t linger.

On public ground, I'd use a business card with the correct information and put it in the deers mouth.
Many instances of folks taking down a deer, going back for a cart and having someone claim it while they were gone.
I saw a story about that along with a video of the hunter coming back to claim his elk when some others had tagged it.
Fortunately, a GW was close and when he told him to check the mouth, he got his elk.

No question is a dumb question, unless you're ACJ.

Anyways, others have hit the nail on the head, just about anything with your info will work. I like to keep duct tape and a sharpie in my truck for field tagging. Wrap around leg, write CID, license #, name, etc. and you're good to go. I always have a sharpie in my truck to touch up my info on my stands/sticks since I hunt public, and that's a requirement as well.

I was was walking up the 250 yard long hill to get to my car this morning I was debating if I really want to shoot one this weekend.

Hey Bratch, I do have some honey-dos to do this weekend, however, if you get one down and need help dragging one out, seriously, send me a DM. As long as I'm not tied up doing something else, I'll be glad to come help you drag out a deer. Or just send me a DM and we can swap phone #s if that's easier. Same goes for ChicagoMike.

I don't mind helping and with my slow start to the season, I just want to put my hands on a deer. lol

The rest of you don't go getting any ideas, I'm not a for-hire mule. Just offering my service this weekend since I'm not really doing much else and Arcadia is about 20min from the house.

Zone 6 is kind of a pain get to from jump but I walked a ton of this morning. I hear something snorting at me, Guessing a deer smelling me, and walked right on top of one before it jumped and ran off giving me a white tail like a middle finger.

Didn’t see or hear anything other than that, tried to get our before the rain.

Hope to get to go out tomorrow and Sunday too.

Had a blast but unsure of where or how to sit up.

Well good new and bad news.
The good
I had 3 does come in about 5:45 and mill around about 25 yards out. The biggest would look at me occasionally but never spooked and kept hanging around. Facing and quartering towards me she finally turned broadside and I let it fly. I heard a thud and they took off. Wait a bit and go check it out and I had a pass through with a bloody meat chunk laying by the arrow.

The bad

While I was waiting to track it started raining/misting again. She wasn’t spewing blood so I had a hard time getting started on the trail, I finally got her tracked a little ways into the brush but lost the trail. The rain was washing off the leaves and on top of that there were various red and discolored leaves that complicated the track. I called two different blood dogs recommended by the lake but both of them are out of town. I’ll look some more tomorrow but as of tonight I’m assuming I lost her.

This was the fourth time I’ve sat this spot and the first deer I’ve seen, it’s covered in tracks so I was happy that patience and sign kind of paid off. I was also very happy that they were looking at me at 20 yards and never spooked, reinforced my set up was working. Those don’t make up for losing the deer but at least some bright spots.

Well, that sucks. When chunks come out like that it could be a liver shot which is fatal, but not always quick.
The rain definitely screwed up that track. When you go back, and if you find her, the night is cool enough so the meat won't spoil, but the coyotes or feral dogs likely will find it before you do. When you get back in the area, look for groups of birds flying overhead and head that direction.
Good luck. I think every one of us that bow hunts has lost a deer. It happens.
