Well, My Sig 2000 yard died after 5 years of service with actually about an hour of use. Out of warranty of course.
In reality, range finders get turned on for a minute or less of use at each event, which accounts for the hour of use I got out of it. I pretty much hunt the same areas for the last 30 years and have the ranges committed to memory mostly. It was bought for elk hunting in New Mexico and has been rattling around in the hunting backpack during it's lifespan.
Camera Land had one of these on sale last month, so it was ordered while we were in Arizona, having it sent home. Got a chance to unbox it yesterday.
It would not come on. Tried every combination of button pushing the instructions said were needed to run it with no effect.
Pulled the battery and checked it with a multimeter. Voltage was perfect, but put a new battery in it anyway. Same result.
Finally capitulated and called customer service. Apparently, there is a clear disc under the battery cap that has to be removed. Barely visible to the naked eye and it's not mentioned in the instruction manual, but none the less it's working just fine now. My bad for not checking closer.
I've only used it on a reflective target at 1/2 mile so far, but I know it's accurate as that is a surveyed 1/2 mile.
I'll be going to the farm Monday where I know there is a barn at exactly one mile so it will get its test then.
I'm betting it's going to do just fine.
