Does anyone here have a big lathe and long boring bar who could bore out and deepen a hole for me.

I have a 2 diameter piece of round stock that needs bored out. The round stock is 18 inches OAL one OD is 3 1/2" . On the other end the OD is 2 3/4".

This round stock currently has a 14 3/4" deep blind hole down the center. This hole is 1 -3/4" diameter for the first 12 inches. The last 2 3/4" is I believe 1 1/4" diameter.

I need this 2 3/4" long 1 1/4" section at the bottom of the hole opened to 1 3/4" like the forward section of the hole. Drilling will work, boring preferred, reaming would be awesome. Any one of the three process would be acceptable.

Anyone?

Actually I could probably come up with the boring bar-I don't want to for one job, but could. Well if I could find one say 1-1/2" by 16". The lathe would need to be greater than 36 inches tail stock center to head stock center and have a Steady rest to hold 2 2/4 inch diameter work.

It would also need a tool holder to handle a that size boring bar.

I’m missing all of that, especially the length. My bed will only support 20” on the bigger lathe, without a steady rest. I basically do outside turning with a little inside turning to create a relief when building bearing housings for an antique disk I have with that machine.
The other is an antique South Bend belt drive that does have a steady rest I’ve restored but the bed is only 15” long. Can’t get a boring bar in that length.

Make your own jig? Harbor freight tools has long drill bits 24" plus for only a few bucks. You could power with a hand drill. Get some bearing to epoxy to a flat guide and secure the wood so no run out, etc.

I no longer have the tooling to build a jig, or I would.

I need far better finish and precision than can be achieved with drill bit and drill motor. I need the rigidity and fine cut off a boring bar.

I don’t shop Harbor Frieght for this kink of tooling.

What I have is a half scale smooth bore pack Parrott gun. The maker built the bore like the 1841 Pack Howitzer with a reduced chamber. When he scaled the depth of the chamber, he made it to long. The pack parrot was made from a standard 3 inch Parrot gun, which did not have reduced chamber. I need that reduced chamber removed.
