A friend of mine and myself decided to head down to Blue River today to do a little trout fishing. It was extremely cold, but we still managed to get a couple of trout. It was his first time trout fishing.

4 Rainbow trout between 8-10" in length.

Ken putting his first ever trout on the stringer.

Ken's dandy little spotted bass.

I envy you guys with a free flowing stream like the Blue River. We have the Arkansas river, but I love the small streams with the pot holes, that hold fish, and one can just walk, and fish. Most of our creeks around here, dry up in the summer, or are all on private ground, and typically a dumping ground at each bridge.

Thats the kinda river I grew up fly fishing for trout. We'd wade the river all day long. Oh the memories.

Dennis, let's go. It was a 1.5 hour drive for us, but man is it worth it. You'd have to add another 1.5 hours just to get to me though. Season at Blue River closes at the end of March, but places like Illinois River and Lower Mountain Fork River are open year-round. I've never fished the Illinois River though.
