That takes a ton of work and effort!
It looks like you have these bear stations down to an art!
It’s been a learning process. Most everyone in camp are now bear addicts. My oldest son got his own sites this year.
It is a lot of time and work to set them and maintain them. We’ve dialed in the locations we feel are best and had a lot of bears seen and passed on this year.
We keep adding more sites as they become available, however we don’t bait them all. If they aren’t being hit we pull it and let them go to other baits. Our goal is to have this entire area locked up with assigned baits from guys in our camp. We are also looking to start taking disabled vets and kids on bear hunts in the next 2 years once the logistics are worked out.

The zone we hunt had 96 bears taken from it this year. It helps we have the highest concentration of bears in the entire state in our area plus the most liberal sow quota.

What was the recovery like on some of these archery kills as well as your muzzleloader?
Had a couple PITA recovery pack outs that I’d pray to never repeat. very thick Nd steep terrain. Have a great group of guys in camp that will pack anything out for anyone and anywhere.
My bear piled up maybe 25-30y away. Gutted it and packed it out whole. That was my mistake but it was a flat hike out with just a couple blow downs to get over.
Shockingly the head and hike are worse to pack out than the quarters.
When we talk about “dead weight” when packing an animal it’s truly that with a bear. It weighs and packs differently than a deer or elk.

Well the spring bear season is nearly here. We’re hoping to add several more bait areas to our group this year. Have a couple more hunters in our circle.
The bait business is ramping up. I’ve have a few sales this past week already. Have a couple coming this week to get some. With the requests for specific baits (that I don’t have) I’m gearing up to make another 44k pound semi order.
This spring is fixing to be a season I have a feeling.

Between working new hours the last 2 months, I’ve moved on from being the laundry department supervisor, I’m now the chapel officer. I’m working 0730-1800 M-F. I do try a dodge out early the best I can on Fridays when I can.
I’d don’t do the political “good old boy network” BS so I get scat on as a result. I’ve decided a career change from corrections is in order. Not going to go into what I’m perusing now…..time will tell. Im not leaving where I live…I love it here!

Let us know how it goes!

Well I’ve clearly been away awhile…..once again. Works been crazy, I think I mentioned it but I’m trying to get out of the corrections gig. I’ve been an applicant/ candidate with the Rawlins PD for about 6 weeks now. Very slow going on that process.

Well, anyway the bait business has been booming. I’m trying to get another 44k pound semi load as I’m almost sold out of my main product (Kingpin mix) and I’ve sold out of my cookies. I’m running low on several other items. I was hoping this spring would be busy, but I didn’t imagine it be this busy. I have customers coming every couple days and when I don’t have customers I’m working on pulling other orders. I make a 6k pound delivery this past weekend to 2 different outfitters up north.

Today the spring baiting season started. I haven’t even gone south yet this spring to see how far I can even get. I may try that this weekend.

I also picked up my business signs today. Too forever to get them but I have them. The 3’x6’ will go in the pipe frame out at the street and the 4’x8’ will go on the side of the shop. Need these 30+ mph winds to chill out first.

Made a trip down south last Saturday but still couldn’t get within 5 miles of my sites. Most of the drifts have been plowed but not all.
We just had our biggest snow storm of the year hit and dumped 10” on us here at the house but 2’ at my sites. Will make another attempt next weekend to get in and get my baits set up.

That’s my BIL in the pic.
