You mentioned south of the border and it reminded me of our neighbors/best friends back in Oregon. He was from Texas and told me he found an abandoned baby raccoon. His dad gave him permission to keep him so he took “Butch” to the vet and got his shots and everything and Butch ended up being like his dog for several years. No, he didn’t eat him lol. I think he just R-U-N-N-O-F-T
Neighbors have one right now. Damn thing is about to destroy their kitchen and dining room. He wants it dead and gone. She just loves “Rocky” and is really attached to it since she raised it from a bottle. Ive heard that “@#$&%” rules the world and has an effect on the male species that causes blindness but that little trash panda would be getting turned in with a selfie for team points if it did that in my house. I’ll tell my neighbor about the illegal part. Maybe that will give him some leverage to get it gone.

Called them Hoover hogs during the depression, some ate them because it’s all they had.
I had several weird pets as a kid. Had a raccoon for years and it was awesome at first, got all shots necessary and even had him fixed. He got so big that when he stood up you would think he was a baby bear. He would steal hats cigarettes silverware car keys you name it. If you couldn’t find something you would always look under the end table with the long cloth over it and usually find it there. It was really neat to watch the way he moved around and kind of get in his mind sort of but as years went on for no reason at all he just got mean to the point you couldn’t be around him. When it got to that point he was put outside and lived on the big back porch for a long time just like a dog would. One day he was just gone, we had him for several years so I think maybe he wandered off to die.
I have had a hawk owl and deer. These were “rescues” and when they were well fed and healed up got turned loose and never seen again.

I rolled one out of the ground one time when plowing for my uncle. Thought it was dead so I got off the tractor to check it out. It was only stunned and was not in a good mood.
it came after me and realized I couldn’t make it back to the tractor, so took off my belt with a big buckle and whacked the critter upside the head which knocked it silly so a run was made for the tractor. The next turn around the field it was gone.
Mean devils.

I remember when my cousin and I were hunting c**ns one night when the dogs treed one and I shot it but it didn't fall out of tthe tree. So my cousin started to climb the tree and the darn was still alive. It jumped right on his chest and down out of the tree they went. There I am laughing and thinking of the Jerry Clower's story of The C**n hunt. It jumped off my cousin and ran off with the dogs in hot pursuit. They treed it again and this I made sure I shot in the head. My cousin was mad and cussed out me for laughing at the whole thing and after we it got the he didn't want to hunt any more. On the ride back home he didn't say a word to me and I couldn't help but to laugh at the whole thing because I was the only one who had a good time at the expense of the c**n.
