Kele, yep it's a .45. The only thing about it that doesn't make me happy is that I waited so long to get a .45!! Poked another 150 thru it and it just keeps doing what it ought to. One thing tho, I picked up some Winchester ammo at Walley world for $14 a box and man is that some dirty powder they use. But the gun keeps shooting it.

Kele, not good for protection???????DO WHAT????? I carry a Springfield Armory XD-45 Tactical on duty. Love it. The 45acp is an excellent man stopper. The only caliber that can compare with it for one shot stops on human critters is the .357 mag. Which Im also a huge fan.

Congrats on a fine weapon. ;D I haven't tried the Winchester ammo yet, but have been buying the 100rnd pack of Remington 230 grain HP for plinking. Works really well for me.
The deer and the bobcat I took with the Kimber this last fall secumbed to the Corbon 185 grain +p. Runs the bullet up to 1175 fps. I have pics of the recovered bullets.
The owner of the Gunsight Academy told me that for personal defense, he always uses the speer gold dot. In their testing at the academy, some .45's had an issue with penetration and maintaining accuracy when shooting at a windshield. All would penetrate, but most would deflect upward from the point of aim. He said the gold dot would penetrate, and maintain POA.

Ive got a Firestorm 38 Super that I paid about $200 for. I bought it because I wanted a cheap 1911 to learn to work on them. I bought one of those AGI gunsmithing videos and learned how to completely strip one down. I recommend the video if you are looking to learn how to strip one to the frame and add your own custom stuff. That 38 Super is a great round also.

Gauge, it's just the Range/Target Winchester, not even super X. For the price it's good plinking but I've had several .45 guru's say not to even try reloading it as it's factory seconds. Dunno the brass looked fine but for 14 bucks a 100, it might cost more to reload. For under the pillow it'll be Gold dot or Talon's. I'll run enuff thru to see where it impacts at and keep the rest for pertekshun loads. Hunting will be prob'lly the Corbons.

One of our gate guards is some kind of record holder shooting .45's and he's gonna take me under his wing, ought to be some fun learning for me.

Make sure it cycles all those loads good before you load it up and put it under your pillow, thats a bad time to find out it don't like a certain round. My Ruger will eat anything you put threw it,but my 1911 is a little touch on those Carbons???

Oh believe you me I'll put "several" thru it before it goes in hiding. Got a Blackhawk Serpa Sportsman holster on the way for it to sleep in. Thing about me and shooting I can't make myself stop. I love making cans dance, prob with the .45 is the can zips off to never never land! So that is why the el cheapo ammo is a nice thing but don't want to stake my welfare on it.

Well found out how many rounds the .45 would shoot between cleanings, 430. Cycled everytime I pulled the trigger but finally failed to load a round when changing clips and letting the slid forward. Pretty impressed but don't think I'll be doing the grunge test again. Gave it a really good cleaning and will do from now on.

Picked up another McCormack 10 rnd clip today just for giggles. I'm stocking up just in case you can't get them this time next year.

I'm still on my grunge tests. Kimber recomends a 500 rd break-in. I started cleaning it after every 100 rounds or so, until I got to 500, then quit, and have gone thru about 300 since. Lots of turtles and snakes have bit the dirt ;D ;D

Good idea stocking up on the clips. I only have the 8 round clips. Where are you buying you 10 round? ???

I'm getting my 10 rounders at a lil gun shop in Shawnee, he kind of caters to the law enforcement types in the area. Not a lot in his store but is a good guy to deal with. I've checked what I could order the clips for and he's pretty much within a couple of bucks with what the online/catalogue stores charge w/o shipping.

Dennis,
He told me he had three 10 round mags left for that Kimber model.
He can't sell the 15 rounds mags anymore.

Stainless clips are $ 35.95 each & Black clips are 27.99 each for 10 round mags.
