I’m not a grandparent yet, but from what I experienced with my own grandparents and my parents and my in-laws to my kids, you’re going way overboard on the whole permission from Dad thing. Grandparents are supposed to be above “parental law”. I treat my niece and nephew like I’m a grandparent and get them into stuff just to piss off my brother, and THAT’S why I’m the favorite uncle (according to the kids, not my brother).
I think getting young ladies into hunting is great, because life isn’t all about frilly dresses. In my opinion, it needs to be her idea and not forced, and it sounds like M is ready. My daughter crossed that line when she was 10, and it was a surprise to the whole family.
My advice is to set M up for success as best you can and make it a fun experience, and even if she doesn’t see a deer, let her shoot a SOMETHING. I’ve found that initial success is the key to them wanting to go again and again.
@TheDoubleD and @baby Y’all are great grandpas, and I hope to be the same to my grandkids someday.
Edit to add shameless glamour shots of my daughter.
