I have a lpvo 1x4x24 that I’m thinking about putting on my AR15 I just don’t know if it will work for up close in a hurry. Anyone else use one?

I'm running a Primary Arms 1-6 LPVO on one of my ARs, I really like it. It's got an illuminated chevron reticle in the middle with hashes for windage and drop compensation. That said, mine is a "general purpose" gun and I don't intend to shoot it much past 300 yards. If I ever plan to shoot further or at smaller targets like prairie dogs, coyotes, etc. I like more magnification. I think LPVOs are a great option for shorter range, to mid-range work, especially when you suffer from astigmatism, like me, and red dots look like a red octopus glaring at you.

Most LPVO aren't true 1x, so you will have to account for that. As the price lessens generally, the amount of visual distortion at lower power also increases. Call it a correlation, but not one that is enjoyed by many.

That being said; with practice, ALMOST EVERYONE will be faster with an LPVO than they will be with iron sights. That is one of the reasons why the USMC went with the RCO/ACOG (4x) about two decades ago. Obviously, the ability to visually pull things closer at 4x helps a lot too.

If the lowest common denominator of the 'crayon eaters' can be faster with a 4x optic on target as compared to irons, you can be with a 1x optic.

I run a 1-6x on my 6.8 that my seven-year-old is using, and she's great with it. I run a 1-8x on my backdoor AR that I've used to kill a lot of stuff with over the years.

Your mileage may vary, but an LPVO is going to benefit 99.9% of the shooters out there.
