Must be headed north

I’m currently in Sayre. There is a big pond just outside the park that is covered in mallards.
Where were they during duck season?

We have a wood duck pair that seem to come back every spring to breed. There is a hollow tree on the bank of a small pond along our driveway they nest in. Haven’t seen them this year so far though.
