We had a former member on her that had a 6’ American alligator as a pet. It passed on many years ago. Some 5-6 years back they caught one in a pond in Rush Springs. I think that one was only 4’ or so. The SE area of the states got them in minimal numbers but enough to be considered a population.

Back in the day you could buy Caymans at Kress stores for a couple bucks each. There were a few that were turned loose and had to be captured or killed around Ponca back in the 60's. The biggest was a little over 3' when they got too big for the bathtub.
The 9 footer at Claremore lake was a huge animal. Having a hard time believing it was some local pet that was let loose. If it was the previous owner must have had a really large enclosure to raise it in.

Went to Shreveport some time back and while checking into the room the girl at the front desk reminded us of where we were and told us if we want to swim stay in the pool as all waterways contain alligators and apparently the population was exploding at the time. The only waterway around us within sight of the room was a big drainage ditch I asked her if they had an issue with folks getting in it and the young lady grinning said she has to say it for a reason.
