I like riding atv’s, doing light machining on the lathes, welding and recently got into metal detecting and lapidary work.
While in Arizona over the winter I built stone handles for 6 steak knives and a chef’s knife from rocks. The blanks were bought at Woodcrafters.
Here is how it starts. Slabs are cut from raw rock. The pattern traced and cut to rough shape with a tile saw and glued to the knife.
Then on to the polishing wheels that go from coarse 30 grit for stock removal to the final polish with 50,000 grit

the finished product:

Wood Garden tool Gas Kitchen utensil Tints and shades

Wood Rectangle Line Metal Hardwood

Started into metal detecting recently as well.
First serious hunt was in the back yard yesterday. Found what most would expect around a home. Screws, coins, nails, etc.
Can’t wait to prospect around some old homesteads.

I train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and am deep in the craft/home brew beer scene. I also like to wrench on the Jeep and work around the house
My son is heavily into the Brazilian Ju Jitsu.
He won second in his weight class at the world championships held in California last year.

My activities have been tapering off the last few years. Seems like when I turned 75 my gitty up and go, got up and went. While having no serious health issues I am slowing down.

We like to travel but slowed down during Covid, restarted now.

Traveled to Guatemala in December to drill a water well. Was disappointed at first at not physically being able do most the jobs, then found I could throw the drill stem. Threw 170 feet of the 230 we drilled, 5 ft at a time.

We are Florida right now getting ready to board a cruise ship with the Edmond grandkids on Springbreak.

Will travel toGalveston in April to take Maryland Granddaughters on a cruise. I may ask for prayers on this one. I am sharing a room with Two teenage granddaughters and Grandma. What was I thinking.

Outdoors I have the deer lease. I go down there to wander around. I set up a feeder. Fish, chase armadillos. There is a fat old hog that has set up home on one of the feeders. I have been chasing him. Wife noticed this morning that our feeder isn’t level. Gee, guess I need to run down the lease and level that thing. It is a 2 gr drive down so I might as as well spend a couple of days and call some coyotes, and fish.

The ranch owner has asked that I bring the bowling ball mortar down a shoot balls into his pond. I build black powder mortars and cannons.

I am getting ready to build a thunder mug. This one will shaped like a Rook chess piece. Thunder mugs are basically the chamber portion of a cannon. The are loaded with full charge and then filled with flour. They are strictly for noise. They are very loud.

I also do Martini rifles. I like those that are in obsolete calibers. I make brass and develop loads. 577/450, 577/500 BPE . WR Musket No. 2, WR 1-1/2” carbine. 577 2-3/4” NE. My current favorite . 303. Not .303 British which uses .311 bullets. But a . 303 that uses actual .303 bullets. This is beautiful Martini sporting rifle that as indicated by proof marks was made circa 1890. It sure was exciting to shoot a .303 British in that action. Smoke rolled out of the action. Case head came off.

Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday I watch FabRats, Matt’s off road recovery, Robbie Layton and if there is a new one out Diggler hog hunting on You tube.

That’s bit of inactivity. Gotta go now. Headed to beach

That’s awesome. My competing is probably over and my training way down these days but I still try to make it in at least once a week.

I’m a board member for our regional chapter of The Great Divide Friends of the NRA. We had our annual banquet last night so my free time is opening back up now. But that is a year round thing for us as well. That really does take up a lot of free time.

I spend a lot of my unclaimed free time shoveling snow it seems. That keeps me busy at least 9 months of the year but I’m on the clock 12 months a year for that.

Next month starts my annual ritual of feeding the cute, cuddly and tasty bears. That will keep me busy for another 2 months or so and surly lead to another solo wilderness survival experience. With luck my entire fall may be nothing but a wilderness survival experience…..that’s still TBD.

My wife and I recently bought a camper and are in the process of remodeling that. My goal is to have it ready for the fall season at the latest.

With the spring thaw around the corner (June) I’ll be making my excursions into the high country lakes for some back woods fly fishing. We tie our own flys so some time will be spent on that to stock up on those early ice off patterns.

Of course my ever unpredictable work schedule will throw a wrench into everything just mentioned.

I coach our county 4H shotgun shooting sports kids. I do some one on one with them during winter months when after school daylight hours are short. Now that the time changed we will start back up shooting with the group. Usually have 5 or 6 that can make it sometimes I’ll have 9 or 10.
I still keep my PRCA card and will go to 5 or 6 local rodeos and team rope. Go to several ranch rodeos every year and judge a hand full of them also. Judging is something I think I’ll do more of because I’ve been asked to do several more. It will keep me connected to the sport but at the same time it can be hard on friendships when I have to flag someone out. The judges call is final and I don’t do anything out of spite. When there’s rules they will be broken either intentionally or not.
I raise a handful of horses still. Got a nice stud and 4 broodmares. I’ll have a set of colts to start every spring. I’ve learned over the years how to avoid some of the wrecks and how not to turn one into a bronc but I still get my arse yard darted a few times every spring. About to the age where I don’t need that. I never was a good bronc rider but if I know its coming I can usually get by one. It’s the ones that happen unexpectedly that can’t seem to get covered.
Spending time with my daughters is at top of my list though. Anything I can do with them is time well spent.

I spend a lot of time messing with reloader stuff and searching google maps trying to figure out where Retrieverman is finding morels and sheds on his place 😁
Yeah well, you don’t need to start any sh*t with me, because all I got was excuses when I tried to get you to come over to fish the river with me last year.:ROFLMAO:

Other than hunting and fishing (a little), I don’t really have any other hobbies. I’m going to the Oklahoma Blood Trackers event on April 1st to hopefully get some pointers on training my male Boykin Spaniel, and I’m hoping blood trailing might become a hobby. Easton is dumber than a box of rocks though, so I’m not getting my hopes up that he’ll catch on.

I hate to admit it but really don't have any hobbies per se other than hunting and fishing. When I lived in CO, hiking was a big part of our weekends as was camping but not so much here. We do have a boat so try to get on one of the beautiful OK lakes a few times each year but pricing for lodging has gotten crazy especially if there's easy access for Texans(Beaver's Bend, Arbuckle, Murray). Likely will start trying some of the lakes around Tulsa. I think Tenkiller is probably the most scenic but 3 hours or so each way pulling a boat ends up needing a 3 day weekend. Eufaula is probably our least favorite.

We do like to travel so plan a big trip(2 weeks) every other year. May go more often these next couple of years since we're taking my Mom while she still has the desire. Short trip planned to Niagara Falls likely in April then hope to visit Portugal in the fall for 12-14 days.

How dirty most of the water is unless you're around Porum and seems the depth varies GREATLY and sometimes without any warning. Felt I was always watching my depth gauge unless in a wide open area. Most likely would be better IF I knew the lake underwater topography not just what I see/think it's like from the surface. This is with a 24' Crownline so it has a pretty good displacement compared to say a bass boat.

Shop out that way sold shirts that said lake Eufaula where the women are the only thing dirtier than the water. You don’t want to wear white that’s for sure. I’ve never experienced the variations in depth but you aren’t the first person I’ve heard say that. Took my brother and nephew out to Gibson one time in the pontoon, I said what is that up there, looked at the depth finder we are in pretty deep water got closer to what I was looking at it was a bird standing in the middle of the lake. Look at the depth finder again we are in three foot.

Every lake has their dangerous places. Kaw, Grand, Tenkiller and so on. Back in the day when I took a year off and fished the Redman Bass Tournaments in Eastern Ok and Arkansas, It was to one's advantage to get there a day or so earlier and visit the boat repair shops for a few hours to see which part of the lake took the toll of lower units the most.
Buddy and I were ripping down Tenkiller at around 70mph in my bass boat one early morning going from 70' to 2' in open water. Never let off, just put the boat into a hard turn to keep the lower unit higher and rode it out to deeper water.
It was back in the 80's. Think it was diamond back island nearby?
Kaw has an unmarked reef near the swim beach that has had many boats with the nose pointing to the sky when running aground. Its only 10" under the surface at normal levels, and the stories keep going.
