Other than hunting and fishing, what hobbies do you participate in?

I like riding atv’s, doing light machining on the lathes, welding and recently got into metal detecting and lapidary work.
While in Arizona over the winter I built stone handles for 6 steak knives and a chef’s knife from rocks. The blanks were bought at Woodcrafters.
Here is how it starts. Slabs are cut from raw rock. The pattern traced and cut to rough shape with a tile saw and glued to the knife.
Then on to the polishing wheels that go from coarse 30 grit for stock removal to the final polish with 50,000 grit

Wood Rectangle Line Metal Hardwood

Started into metal detecting recently as well.
First serious hunt was in the back yard yesterday. Found what most would expect around a home. Screws, coins, nails, etc.
Can’t wait to prospect around some old homesteads.

I hate to admit it but really don't have any hobbies per se other than hunting and fishing. When I lived in CO, hiking was a big part of our weekends as was camping but not so much here. We do have a boat so try to get on one of the beautiful OK lakes a few times each year but pricing for lodging has gotten crazy especially if there's easy access for Texans(Beaver's Bend, Arbuckle, Murray). Likely will start trying some of the lakes around Tulsa. I think Tenkiller is probably the most scenic but 3 hours or so each way pulling a boat ends up needing a 3 day weekend. Eufaula is probably our least favorite.

We do like to travel so plan a big trip(2 weeks) every other year. May go more often these next couple of years since we're taking my Mom while she still has the desire. Short trip planned to Niagara Falls likely in April then hope to visit Portugal in the fall for 12-14 days.

What is it you don’t like about Eufaula?
How dirty most of the water is unless you're around Porum and seems the depth varies GREATLY and sometimes without any warning. Felt I was always watching my depth gauge unless in a wide open area. Most likely would be better IF I knew the lake underwater topography not just what I see/think it's like from the surface. This is with a 24' Crownline so it has a pretty good displacement compared to say a bass boat.

Bear, my buddy found this along the N Canadian in Okfuskee County. He had it aged and I believe in the 5,000 year old range IIRC.

My buddy that found it sent to a group in OKC who does preservations. I'll see what I can find about it and post. Very interesting what they told him about it.

Easier to find than I thought.

I have the radiocarbon date results for your bison skull. It is 5100 +/- 30 years old. This date supports our identification of the skull as belonging to Bison occidentalis. If there had been a culture associated with the skull, it would have most likely been the Calf Creek culture. They are the ones that made the Calf Creek spear point. I've attached an article about the Calf Creek skull with point embedded in it to give you some more information.

I am in the process of treating your bison skull with preservative. It is looking good.
