I spent about 2 hours today busting up 2” thick ice from my front sidewalk and back driveway. You can come chop and remove all you want of that. Only eye candy is my 3 dogs and the deer walking around the back alley way.

Well okay so I enjoyed the trip. Kind of fun to get out with family and enjoy them. Over ate of course.

On Saturday after the cruise the grandson and I went out and fished with Capt. Ceyene of Home | Southern Mayhem Fishing Charters out of Melbourne, Fl.

We only caught one fish. Well I caught the one fish. I have never fished for tarpon before. We saw a number of them roiling in the water. This wasn't a big fish, we saw bigger. This was pretty standard catch in the area where we were. But this fish didn't know he wasn't a big fish. He popped the live bait hard and slowly swam away. I waited a 5 count as instructed and set the hook. Holy Cow!!! That set off the explosion! That fish blasted out of the water and went tearing off ripping line of my reel. I Was completely surprised and I was expecting this--except not quite this strong. What a fighter wow! It was a pure battle. Per instructions I let him run a bit, kept the tip up and line tight, then slow increasing the drag, reeling the fish in. This fish was strong and aggressive. Worked in the line moving in to the boat and closer to the landing net. The fish started to calm and then it saw the net and the fight started all over. Wow. The Capt finally netted it and we took the obligatory picture.

This fishery is mandatory catch and release. Any fish greater than 40 inches may not be taken out of the water without a special one fish a year trophy/record keeping tag. If you take a fish that big out the water even just for pictures without the tag is a serious violation.

My fish was not 40 inches. Skipper said it was 27-28 inches and some where around 10-12 lbs. I was thrilled. What you can't see in the picture is my adrenalin shakes. I was trembling like kid with is first deer.

This was so exciting. I want to go do this fishing again.

Capt. Ceyne was very apologetic at the poor fishing. He said this wasn't the best time of the year for fishing and suggested I came back in June. Wife said maybe.

Ceyene is a young man just starting his career as charter boat captain, He appears knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He is patient and helpful. Read his biography here: Meet Your Captain | Southern Mayhem Fishing Charters

I highly recommend chartering a trip with him. I would Fish with him again.

(Sidebar) just checked my calendar. June is wide open....now to check the 401K

I’d love to catch one on a fly rod. Congrats on the tarpon.

Fly Rod! Walker Cay Chronicles. They are on Youtube.

I am scheming and plotting. Wife wants to got to Minnesota in June. Capt. Ceyne says June is best time to fish tarpon.

When I go to MN after 2 hours visiting the 2 year old Great grandson I am bored, unless the Grandson takes me fishing. Grandson is a Tournament fishermen and June is his busy time, he would not have time for me.

So as I have done time or two in the past, I hop on the plane and go somewhere--Tarpon fishing is somewhere.

I thought about also booking a peacock bass fishing trip and an iguana hunt--how many points for iguana?

But my 401K is only earning pennies and nickel's right now instead of dollars, so probably tarpon only. Maybe a full day.

Scheming and plotting.
