My baits are getting hit everyday at various times. I know of 7 different bears between the 2 spots. Had a co worker go put a stand on my new spot this morning. A bear tore up my built ground blind and left a calling card in the middle of it.
I personally like spring bear hunting.
Sounds like success is in your future!

As my favorite author (Patrick F. McManus) once said…Never sniff a gift fish.
Growing up in Spokane, I got to meet Pat McManus once (he was from Sandpoint, ID). Pretty nice guy.

My mom ran into his wife a couple years ago and told her that about the only books I'd read on my own during my formative years were Pat McManus'. It was unfortunate to hear at the time that he was apparently suffering pretty badly from alzheimers.

I was born and raised in the Tri-Cities (Kennewick, WA).
I used to be a Boy Scout camp Commissioner at Camp Cowles up on Diamond Lake.

Very sad about his passing. My dads mom died of Alzheimer’s and my dad has dementia as well.

Today was opening day of many archery seasons here. The co worker I let hunt my newest bait shot himself a little chocolate boar just before noon. I can’t wait until Friday when I get my chance to get out for a few days of camping and hunting.

Haha that knew truck payment kept you from it!
That’s for sure!! I’m just not the type to call in just because I don’t wanna go to work. I called in 3 days last week while the wife was in the hospital. That cost me about 5 months worth of sick leave.

Will have my local used fry oil dealer hunting the same as bait the bear shot yesterday tomorrow and Saturday. I will hunt the other bait all weekend. I now have a crud load of bait to take. I spent $51 tonight at Walmart on cleaning the discount rack of $.14 apply & cherry pies plus $.35 French bread loafs & diner roll packs.
The cashier looked at me very crazy like when I started loading the conveyer belt up. I said it was for bear baits. She laughed and said good luck with Yogi.

Wife runs hummingbird feeders in the summers when we are home.
We have so many that it takes about a pound of sugar every two days to keep the feeders filled.
What's amazing is I found the 1lb bags of off brand sugar are cheaper than the 20 pound sacks for restaurants, so I roll up to the checker with a basket full of 1lb bags.
I think they are saying here is another moonshiner or something even when I tell them its for the hummers. Kind of get the eye roll look...... I swear, that's what it's for.

I play with all sorts of bait mixes with what I have and can get. If you’d see what is the bags you’d be like what the heck. Usually it’s just my popcorn and bread.
This batch is apple, lemon, cherry, sweet tater, and cinnamon mini pies all broke up, mixture of various bread types torn to baseball sized chunks, cheap high protean dry dog food and 12% All Stalk sweet feed with molasses. Will top it all off with about 2 gallons of used fry oil to wash it all down with. The bread really soaks it up and they seem to love that.
So the bigger stuff will feed them while the smaller stuff keeps them on the bait longer trying to feed on it. I don’t want them grabbing a bunch and running off to eat then coming back. This is a sit down and die/ dine in establishment I’m running.

My buddy Jay shot a boar about 830 this morning he got off my other bait site. That’s a bear off each in the last 3 days.
So what was a great day for him ended in tragedy as well. Around 5pm he was headed out to scout for some elk on his ATV when a bovine calf ran out of some trees and in front of him. He swerved to miss it and was thrown from his ATV. One of his friends with him circled back to help. He was in bad shape. It just happened the game warden was at his camp a few hundred yards away checking in and taking samples of his bear. They got him back to camp and she led them 60 miles back here to town with a code 3 escort. They called me to tell me before I could leave and come up to camp. I called the ER and reported it and to be expecting them. GW called it in as well.
His wife just made the 2.5 hour drive from their house up north. She’s with him now. She informed me he has a severely fractured left scapula, 7 broken ribs, hairline fractures to both upper arms and his left femur. My buddy Jay is in bad shape. His wife will stay with us until he is released from the hospital. At this point I’ve canceled my hunting plans for the weekend.
Here’s my buddy Jay and his bear.
