It’s once again that time of year around here. Time for the snow to melt and the bears to get hungry.
So spring archery season started a few days ago (15th). We had a hell of a winter and I still can’t get into the mountains due to the snow drifts blocking the roads. I’m only able to get about 22 miles and need to go 43 miles. I will try another drive down south in about 2 weeks to see how much mores been plowed or melted.
Here’s a few pics from Tuesday on my first trip down south this spring to check things out.
I know a couple of you expressed interest in me continuing to post pics and such of my bear baiting endeavors.

NOW THE FUN BEGINS!!!
Made it all the way to my sites today. Walked in with the dogs to get a feel for things. I’m home now and all packed packed up. Waiting on youngest to get off work. We’re gonna go camp out tonight and get at least the main bait set up and stands secured.

Well my youngest and I went and set the barrel and camera anyway last night. I wasn’t expecting anything just wanted to get the scent in the air. Camped out last night and went back this morning to get ladder and hang on stand secured up and set up. We also rebuilt the back stop for the site as well.
I guess I should mention the bait was hit about 8 hours later. Fastest hit I’ve ever had. Based on the tracks in the snow it looks to be a 2 year old just kicked out by momma.

Last nights crude setup, this mornings findings and the final product. Until a bear decides to rip it all down.

It’s all on foot after the gate. This is where I park and make the mile hike in to my trail head to my main site. Snow and standing water made tent setup on the road a must. it was the only firm ground. It’s all generator use in these parts no established camping areas. Just can’t be more that 100’ off a main accessible road so no camping down that old closed logging road. Still a lot of work to do on the camper rebuild so it’s tents for me. Elk camp buddies are coming down next weekend with a wall tent and that will be home for awhile. My days off will be hunting days now.

Hard to imagine just getting into big game hunting while the hunting seasons are winding down here.

Hard to imagine trudging through knee deep snow this late in May as well. It dropped to near freezing last night. Had a thin crust of ice on several standing pools of water around camp this morning.
