Squirrel hunting

I took my son with me the other day to try squirrel hunting. He didn't actually get to cary a gun but I wanted a picture of both of us with our guns.
We didn't see a single squirrel that afternoon because it was too windy and early (not to mention little kids don't walk very quiet. 😁) but we had a lot of fun wandering around 1500+ acres of woods.

My eldest son does appliance repair and resell. He makes some good change at times. Not so much with this inflation.
It's a good trade. I enjoy it.

What do y'all think is there any chance I might get a squirrel if I go out later if it's not windy? It's 35° right now so my fingers will be cold but I've got an itch to go wander around in the woods and shoot at things. 😁

It appears the answer is no squirrels don't come out when it's this cold. 😔 Also my fingers don't like to come out when it's this cold.

Saw a squirrel running down the power line in front of my place this afternoon. They do come out when it’s cold. Our high was 18* today with single digit wind chills. I’d rather have taken some of the collard dove in the pine tree in the front yard instead.

Yeah I keep seeing them on fences and power lines in town they're tempting me to start carrying a gun in my work truck. 😂

If it makes you feel better I’m sure he was running to stay warm. It was -21 with the wind chill here at 4am.

We had them running around our yard this morning at 22 degrees F.

I probably didn't stay out long enough because I froze.
You certainly have to dress for the weather and the amount of physical activity during that weather.

Dress in layers based on your physical activity levels. I wanna try my new pack boots that are rated to -50.

I am hoping to go back tomorrow and I'll definitely wear more layers.

It sure was pretty out this morning but I didn't see a squirrel. 😔
I did however find this old basement down by Lake Ellsworth and it appears the beavers are using the basement for storage and maybe a house.

Just some pictures from down by Elsworth at what I refer to as the wild garlic spot.

You had a great day in the woods though!
That hole doesn’t appear to be fresh. Abandoned by some critter. About the right size for an armadillo.

Yep I enjoyed it.
That makes sense. I saw armadillo sign all over.
I might have to hunt armadillo or something if I don't see a squirrel one of these days. My wife says it is really good.
