Squirrel hunting

I took my son with me the other day to try squirrel hunting. He didn't actually get to cary a gun but I wanted a picture of both of us with our guns.
We didn't see a single squirrel that afternoon because it was too windy and early (not to mention little kids don't walk very quiet. 😁) but we had a lot of fun wandering around 1500+ acres of woods.

Hit up the west side of the lake. I’ve got many fond memories of dove, duck, deer and Turkey hunting Ellsworth.

Yeah I like Elsworth. I have walked and drove the majority of the shore but now I just need to find where the squirrels are hiding.
Before I got married I used to park on the lake shore and sleep in my car when I got so tired of the neighbors dogs I was ready to start shooting. 😁

Apparently they are popular in Belize central America. They used it in soup.

Hoover hogs they called them during the depression. I can’t see myself eating on, not that hungry yet.

That does look like a good area. I haven't explored up that creek yet.
We ate armadillo one time when I was a kid. Uncle was stationed at Beeville Tx at a Naval air station.
He had bought 40 acres there of mainly sand and brush that was infested with dillers and quail.
Dad, uncle and I went quail hunting getting a couple and an armadillo. Uncle cut it out of the shell and gutted it.
Took the meat into the house to finish the job.
He dug a hole, started a fire to make coals, seasoned and wrapped The meat in foil and buried it in the fire pit.
4 hours later, dug it out and we ate. Everyone commented it had a pork flavor. It was common food in that area he said among the Hispanics.
I’d never do it again after finding it can carry the leprocy disease.

We were on lockdown at work yesterday so I watched a Naked and Afraid marathon on the pod (day room) TV. The guy was trying to stalk and kill a dillo to eat but he couldn’t get it. I’d always heard they are capable of carrying the leprocy virus.

It's a bacteria and quite curable these days with antibiotics.

They have terrible eyesight. I know people that have quietly walked up behind them and used a ball bat to save a bullet.

I’ve had dillos walk up to me while still hunting. Sounded like a Buffalo running through the leaves.

Just run over one and it'll commit suicide on the bottom of your car. 😁

It looks like the end of squirrel season is catching up with me quickly so I'm not likely to get a squirrel this season. 😔 Next time I guess. I think I prefer summer hunting anyway.

I liked hunting them in fall. The leaves would be off the trees and make them easier to see. Also I didn't have to worry about ticks.

Yeah it's just the winter that was too cold for me. I think I will be able to sit still better in the warm weather. I am looking forward to some nice sweaty hot weather again. I have clothes for that but I am not equipped for cold.

We have lots of black walnut and pecan trees. I can open any of my doors and use the frame for a sniper shot 😂. Have y’all ever tried rubbing 2 dimes together to imitate the sound of a bushy tail eating a nut? I’ve heard it works, but haven’t tried it

Never heard of that but it might be worth trying if you got bored enough.
