This is what I did today.

Just a thread to post in what happened today.
I'll start.
Some of our RV friends that we have been travelling with for the last 7 years came up I-35 yesterday and stopped at the Tonkawa Casino RV park so we could get a visit.
It's been two years since camping with them in Colorado.
We met at the restaurant at the casino last night and they came to our home today.
We cooked up a nice meal, and visited for a couple of hours.
They live in Mercedes Tx, two miles from the Mexican border and are traveling to Canada for a wedding. Wife's nephew is getting married. Our friend's wife has dual citizenship. Canadian born, American citizen.

They are headed to Alberta Canada which as we all know Canada does not allow certain firearms in their country.
There are places that allow lockers to rent along the border on the US side where US citizens entering into Canada can put their guns and retrieve them later when exiting that country for a fee, which can be steep.
Just so happens, our friends destination does not have that locker access, so they called the North Dakota Sheriffs office to see if there was an alternative.
The Sheriff's office said they would store them in their evidence locker after taking pics and recording SN's.
They could retrieve them when exiting Canada. How cool is that?
He was kind of torn on this with the bad publicity about AR's in the recent mass shootings, so decided to leave them at home and just take a shotgun and pistols.

What did you do today?

I slept in today. I’m now back at the dentist office getting those fillings from yesterday shaped properly. Was so numb yesterday I couldn’t feel to bite down on that dye strip stuff.
I plan to go to storage and get a bunch of bear bait stuff out to make a bunch of popcorn for this weekend. I’ll toss in a few yellow bellies in throughout the day as well.
Tomorrow I’m gonna go to work and pretend I want to actually work.

Light rain most of the day so all my outside activities I’d planned went away.
So, off to the shop to tie some flies.
Did some Clouser minnows in different hook sizes and patterns, San Juan worms in different chaniles, a mop nymph, emerger, scuds and a couple of who knows what they are flies.

Looks like you’re ready for those summer CO trips.
You need to book some time to come and finally fish the Miracle Mile.

That Miracle mile is on my bucket list of places to fish. Watched several video's of the folks fishing on it. Amazing fishery.
I had thought about it this summer as we were going to be RV'ing SW of Denver, so it wouldn't be that far of a drive to make a weekend fishing trip there, but MIL has developed cancer. It's slow growing, so we may not be traveling this summer so wife can spend as much time with her mom as possible.

Feeling cruddy today!. (can we still say cruddy?)

Ever once in a while I get a cold. Not severe just bad enough to make me feel miserable. When ever I get a cold I have found that Alka seltzer plus cold medicine eases the symptoms. I told the wife I had some left from the last time I had a cold. Went to medicine drawer and dug it out.

Wife came running in telling me she looked it up on Google and there are warnings about people my age on anticoagulants taking Alka seltzer plus Cold medicine.

I told I decided not to take it anyway...

Check that expiration date

Yeah, it’s a little out of date.

You’re good. Stuff like that is just like mayonnaise and milk. They never get old or go bad.

Bought a shotgun today off palmetto state. Don’t need one. But been wanting a semi-auto mag fed and they had a century arms on there on sale for $199. It’ll take panzer mags so I should be able to find at least 25 rounders somewhere. Anyways, it’ll be fun when it gets here!

Oh, and I also applied for my lifetime hunting license for Oklahoma. I’ve been here for 7 months and it said you have to be here for 6 full months preceding the application date. So I should be good? I like that they will verify before you just order it. But the hunting fishing combo is $775. I’m sure some of you guys think that’s crazy but I’m 36 and license prices will only continue to go up. It’ll be worth it in the long run.

This is true for everything but baby food by law.
The date on canned goods is just when they will start losing some of the taste. They don't go bad the day after the date like some think.

Getting a combo will pay itself back in very few years. They will verify. I'm friends with one of our local GW's. He told me the story of a guy from Kansas applying for a lifetime license. He came to Oklahoma, rented a tiny apartment for 6 months to establish what he thought would pass as a resident.
The guy wanted him to sign the license, but GW asked him to mail it. He did and mailed it from Ks so he got busted for mail fraud plus fraudulently attempting to buy a resident license. Mail fraud is a felony, so there went his gun rights too.

I have a Senior Lifetime Combo license the says renew by 11/15/2219. Does that mean I don't really have to renew then? :)

Well, we bought this place near Claremore in September sight unseen. Got a great deal on it and mainly thinking long term the land value and the location. New windows, rewired the house, new siding, and whole new HVAC system. Well, that’s just the house. The property was overgrown and not maintained at all. I’ve told you all about the cows and I got a couple acres cleared and fenced. But my poor neighbors who have a nice place and kept nice have had to look at the overgrown jungle of a fence line along our properties. So a few weeks ago I asked him if he’d be ok with me tearing everything out and put in some nice fencing. He was like “yes!!!!” 😂😂😂. I didn’t think to take before picture but I took a couple pictures of it cleared out and a few posts set. Huge improvement! Curious to see what our place would value at with what we’ve done to it. Some day I’d like to sell and get more land. But the problem is we are so close to the schools it’s ideal for us. Time will tell!

Very nice!
I have a turkish made AR shotgun. Put a red dot on it and took it to the trap range. Man, you can't miss a clay bird. Put the dot about 6" or so in front of the clay and it disappears in a ball of dust. I wasn't really welcomed among the traditional O/U and trap specific shotguns.
That's OK with me. I like to be a little different. Can't be used in formal trap shoots because of the red dot, but I just wanted to see what would happen.
That was about 5 years or so ago. Now I see shotguns coming out optics ready from the factories. Mainly designed for turkey hunting.
The dot would suck on a covey of quail flushing, but would work just fine on a pheasant flush.
