Haven't been on here in a while, how's everyone doing, just trying to get a little info on the Atoka area, my son worked with a guy from there and he invited us up for a turkey hunt if we can make it, only about 5 hrs from here, he has either 500 or 600 acres, just a little info, population, terrain, i think these will still be easterns, looking for a little insight, not someones honeyhole

My son hunted Atoka W.M.A. on a deer hunt,near the headquarters....... there was wild turkeys everywhere,but the land they was on is banned from hunting,if your on private land near Atoke you should do good on a turkey hunt..good luck on bagging a tom this year

They should still be easterns, although you may see some Rios as well. Terrain is mixed eastern deciduous forest/lowland pine forest, hilly and rocky glades, possibly limestone and shale (depending on where you are) with plenty water (Clear and Muddy Boggy Creeks). SE Oklahoma resembles southern AR and eastern TX.

Only Eastern,I killed was in Love county @ Love Valley WMA.

??? You shot an eastern in Love Co? That's awesome! I would have figured that was too far west for them.

I love that area around Atoka, Antlers and Broken Bow. Love to fly fish for trout Below Broken Bow. They have really done a great job getting it back after the massive floods this spring. Its not done yet, but, better.

He has been the biggest tom,I've ever shot.
30 lbs-12"beard & 1 1/2" spurs.

Biggest- Rio Grande-26lbs-1 1/4" spurs & 11 1/2" beard.

Biggest- Merrium-21lbs-1 1/8" spurs & 10 1/2" beard.

That is my favorite part of the state. I go to Beavers Bend every chance I get. I go primarily for all the snakes and salamanders. Good stuff. But I do love to fish the Lower Mountain Fork, and that Lost Creek area does look really nice.

We have a lease that is next to the Mcgee Creek WMA and I have taken a couple nice gobblers down there in the last few years.

McGee Creek is a pretty neat place. It has a place at the back of the property called "Ferndale Bog". Very marshy and FULL of cottonmouth. I caught 4 there in less than a minute. They hang around an old bait stock tank.

I saw 3 big Gobblers strutting on the lease while scouting Sunday down by McGee Creek. Okherp is right about the cottonmouths, I came across one on the Muddy Boggy last turkey season.
